Edinburgh’s Spanish Film Festival

The Edinburgh Spanish Film Festival (ESFF) is back from October 3rd to 26th, 2024, bringing the latest showcase of contemporary Spanish cinema to audiences across Scotland. We are delighted to announce that, for the ninth consecutive year, the Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies (LINCS) will be a Major Sponsor of the ESFF. LINCs is contributing to this event with the best we can offer from our department: interpreters.

With in-person screenings and exciting events hosted in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, and Stirling, this year’s programme promises to be a fascinating celebration of Spanish storytelling on the big screen. Students and graduates of our MA and MSc interpreting programmes will act as volunteer interpreters in the presentation of films and Q&A sessions with Spanish-speaking filmmakers. We are providing Spanish<>English and also BSL interpreting.

Our long-standing collaboration, established in 2015, is a testament to our commitment to fostering cross-cultural engagement and supporting the arts. At the heart of this partnership is the invaluable contribution of our interpreting students and alumni, who volunteer their skills to bring these stories to life for diverse audiences.

Several of our MSc and undergraduate interpreting graduates will play a pivotal role in interpreting for film presentations and Q&A sessions with Spanish-speaking filmmakers, ensuring a seamless dialogue between creators and the public. Additionally, British Sign Language (BSL) interpreting will be provided throughout the festival, reinforcing our shared dedication to accessibility and inclusion.

This partnership not only enriches the festival experience but also offers our students unique professional development opportunities, allowing them to apply their interpreting expertise in a dynamic, real-world setting.
